Music Teachers’ Association of California

The Music Teachers’ Association of California is a professional organization of music teachers, which includes teachers of keyboard instruments, strings, voice and winds. It has 62 branches throughout the state with 4,700 members, all certified as qualified music teachers. All MTAC teachers have a music degree from an accredited college, university or conservatory, or the equivalent preparation through the organization’s rigorous membership requirements. The requirements and standards set by MTAC ensure that its teachers have the necessary qualifications and credentials to give private music lessons in a professional capacity.

The Butte County Branch of MTAC was chartered in 1951. There are currently 21 members with Susan Crane as president. With the help of your tax-deductible donations, the group sponsors local musical opportunities such as The Chico Summer Music Academy and The MTAC Youth Orchestra. For information regarding our organization, lessons, upcoming events or a list of MTAC teachers in your area please call (530) 345-4031.

Butte Branch MTAC is saddened by the sudden passing of our colleague and friend Dr. Robert Bowman in December 2023. Please join us on January 19, 2024 for a celebration memorial concert. Read the full obituary here
